This page is designed to help investigators understand how the CFAS biological resource can be accessed.

Blood - The process is similar to that below. Please follow the link to see what blood we have.

Tissue - The CFAS biological (or brain tissue) resource is held at various locations around the country, however it is managed on behalf of the CFAS co-operative group by the CFAS tissue archive in Sheffield.  Individual researchers wanting access to the biological resource should follow the process shown in the flow chart.  Researchers can either directly access the core group by email to the Cambridge Administrator, or the member of CMC who facilitates research in their area.  Interested parties are also encouraged to talk to Sheffield about what the resource contains.

Blood/Tissue Request Form

Proposals for access to the biological resource are controlled via a Request Form.  Potential researchers should note that these proposals are put before the Cooperative Management Committee (CMC), (independent of the study).  Sensitive proposals will go before a sub-set of researchers as needed.  Currently no linked data between the biological resource and the respondent data are released for general use.  Blinding of data is undertaken at the CFAS Data Archive.  Analysis of the linked data is undertaken at the MRC Biostatistics Unit, where facilities exist for visiting workers.  Proposals to access the tissue should therefore either provide funds for analysis or for workers to visit Cambridge.

The form is below. It is also available in Microsoft Word format here
